Shift Your Focus to the Good

I know how easy it is to get caught up in the corruption and darkness in the world. When I first started waking up to the truths that are hidden in plain sight, right under our noses, I could not stop myself from reading and sharing everything I could.

Between the 24/7 negativity broadcasted on every news and media channel, corruption in local government, and all the obstacles The Powers That Be have put in place by design (not to mention the subconscious influences they have access to), I understand why it is hard to see that there is so much good still in the world.

I have complete faith that the light IS winning, that things are getting better- slowly but surely- although those of you that rely on local organizations or your social media feed to stay up-to-date the news would likely disagree.

Media Corruption

Authorities cry out about “fake news” but the only fake news I see is coming from alphabet agencies and official organizations. They want us to believe everything else is fake, so they can continue the fear mongering that has done so well to force compliance and slowly chip away at our basic human rights.

I cannot resist the strong urge to detour from the original intention of this article with a few links to valid sources that further expose the media corruption as I write this. For sanity’s sake, here are a few resources I recommend:

  • the PEER Empowerment Network developed an eye-opening, worldview shattering free course called “Media Deception and Public Perception”
  • Wanttoknow.info hosts a myriad of conspiracy theory topics, with verifiable information from known experts in their field. This link will take you to the websites section called the Mass Media Information Center– very informative
  • MuckRock provides a repository of hundreds of thousands of pages of original government materials, information on how to file requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act, and tools to make the requesting process easier.
  • This article Index of US Mainstream Media Ownership was produced as part of a joint-project called The Future of Media, published by Harvard Business School (HBS) and Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) in 2022.
  • I am going to cap off this side rant here with an infographic from WebFx, that provides a detailed look at the ownership of American Media like no one has before. It’s horrifying to know how much control these people have.

Evaluate Your Sources

I take pride in being skilled at reading through the lines to verify that the sources I share are valid. Graduate school papers trained me well; scholarly articles are kind of my thing 😉 Read more about the Techniques for Misdirection and Checking Your Sources.

Even with these valuable skill sets, I came to the realization a while back that we may never know the whole truth. And while I am always down to discuss the details that I have uncovered and share information that resonated with me and I believe to be true, there are better ways to spend our time.

Shift Your Focus

I started writing this particular article in order to share more of the good in the world. Talking with a friend the other day, she was surprised to learn about an organization aimed at the greater good. I was happy that she found a website I had never heard of, yet disappointed in myself for not being more active in sharing the agencies and organizations from all across the globe that were founded for the sole purpose of unifying people to be better humans!

Keep reading to learn more about several altruistic and philanthropic companies and non-profit organizations that I have uncovered in my research.

The Greater Good Science Center

I have already share a few times about UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and its free course offering based on the Bridging Differences Playbook, but I am sharing it again here because it is such a valuable collection of information and resources!

I have learned a great deal about myself and how I can be more effective in bridging differences to combat the toxic polarization that is plaguing our country!

I hope you will join me- the world needs more Bridge Builders!

The Alliance for Sustainability

The Alliance for Sustainability was created nearly forty years ago by visionaries from around the world with a mission to co-create sustainability on a personal, organizational, and planetary level. We’ve always defined sustainability as being ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and humane, embodying our highest values in terms of how we treat people, animals and the planet.

The Alliance for Sustainability has developed what they call the GreenPrint for Sustainability, and offer a couple different ways for the sites visitors to get involved. Click the download link below or head over the the Alliance website to view and sign The Declaration of Co-Creation and Interdependence to show your support!

Integral Cities

Integral Cities has grown into a revolutionary international movement based on the work of Marilyn Hamilton, PhD, CPA/CGA. Her Integral City Book Series: Evolutionary Intelligences for the Human Hive; Inquiry & Action:Designing Impact for the Human Hive; and Reframing Complex Challenges for Gaia’s Human Hives.

A great place to start on this website is an article called Principles for Living Intelligently in a Healthy City. The small Iowa town that I live in would benefit greatly if our city officials would spend a little more time researching how to make the world better for all of our residents, instead of focusing their efforts on undermining people that are struggling.

As an alumni of the school district where I live, I am concerned because it has the highest poverty rate when compared with other area schools. If our local officials continue their derogatory and spiteful behaviors, that will only continue to get worse!

Integral Cities was developed using a systems approach to tackle societal issues, and this graphic outlines our interdependence with the rest of humanity, our planet Earth, and the cosmos.

The Framework of the Integral Cities movement is based on Twelve Intelligences. You can download a brief “tour” of the 12 intelligences on the link below.

Integral Cities recognize four archetypal voices of a city and the importance of valuing each of them equally is vital to the life of a city and the individuals that live there.

Integral City has developed 5 maps to look at the city through lenses that are integral, evolutionary and living systems. The 5 maps form a system that shapeshift from and to Maps 1 and 5, revealing their holographic nature.

Institute for Economics and Peace

“The Institute for Economics and Peace aims to create a paradigm shift in the way the world thinks about peace. We do this by developing global and national indices, calculating the economic cost of violence, analyzing country level risk and fragility, and understanding Positive Peace.”

Steve Killelea, founder of IEP

Peace is much more than the absence of violence. Positive Peace describes the attitudes, structures and institutions that underpin and sustain peaceful societies.

The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit think tank dedicated to shifting the world’s focus to peace as a positive, achievable, and tangible measure of human well-being and progress. IEP achieves its goals by developing new conceptual frameworks to define peacefulness; providing metrics for measuring peace; and uncovering the relationships between business, peace and prosperity as well as promoting a better understanding of the cultural, economic and political factors that create peace.

The Institute for Economics and Peace employs researchers, country specialists, communications and peace experts working around the world to provide statistical information surrounding the concepts of peace and violence. Their Global Peace Index, Global Terrorism Index, and Positive Peace reports outline the status of 228 countries with regard to the economic cost of violence, country level risk and fragility, and indicators of peace.

I am excited to share about the IEP’s Ambassador of Peace program. My application was accepted and I started the six-week course on January 31. The six-week course offers insights, skills, and materials to help me gain a greater understanding of how to be a leader advocating for peace. After completing all the lessons, I will be completing the IEP Ambassador Challenge, utilizing the tools and knowledge I have learned to organize a presentation for an audience of my choosing!

You can download the Positive Peace Implementation Guide below, or visit their website for more information about their free educational opportunities!

I got started on the Ambassador program after completing the Positive Peace Academy that I found through an international group with local chapters known as Rotary.
